Thanksgiving: A Season to Serve with a Thankful Heart

As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re reminded of the countless blessings in our lives. It’s a time to pause, reflect, and express our gratitude to God and to one another. But Thanksgiving is more than a day of feasting and fellowship; it’s an invitation to live with a thankful heart and to serve others in love.

Scripture calls us to gratitude and service, intertwining the two as a way of life. Colossians 3:17 reminds us, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Serving others with a spirit of thankfulness not only blesses those around us but also deepens our own sense of gratitude.

When we take the time to help those in need, we begin to see the world through God’s eyes. Acts of service, no matter how small, can transform our hearts and reveal the abundance of blessings we might have overlooked. As we give, we find ourselves receiving—joy, purpose, and a renewed understanding of God’s goodness.

At Bringhurst Community Church, we are committed to serving our community with a thankful heart. This Thanksgiving season, we encourage you to join us in acts of kindness and service:

  • Volunteer Your Time: Whether it’s helping at a food pantry, visiting the elderly, or participating in community outreach, your time is one of the most valuable gifts you can give.

  • Share a Meal: Invite a neighbor or friend to join your Thanksgiving table, or deliver meals to those who are homebound.

  • Give Generously: Consider donating to a local charity, supporting a family in need, or contributing to our church’s mission projects.

Jesus Himself set the ultimate example of serving with a thankful heart. In John 13:14-15, He washed His disciples’ feet, saying, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.” His act of humility and love teaches us that true thankfulness is expressed in how we serve others.

As we step into this season of gratitude, let’s commit to making Thanksgiving a time of action. By serving with thankful hearts, we will not only bless others but also discover more reasons to give thanks. Together, we can reflect God’s love and bring His light to our community.

May this Thanksgiving season fill your heart with joy, your home with love, and your life with abundant blessings. Let us go forth, thankful and ready to serve, knowing that in giving, we receive so much more.

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Bringhurst Community Church!
